Notes: John Whistler and Mary Ann Hulford were married at Rotherwick on 14 February 1828. Charlotte, the sister of John Whistler, had married Henry Thick at Odiham, Hampshire on 25 September 1823.
The next transcribed census return shows Charlotte living with her husband and children. Her mother Mary Whistler, who was recently widowed, was also residing with the family.

Notes: From a dictionary of old occupations a carman (or carter) was a driver of a horse-drawn vehicle for transporting goods. The census form noted that William and Ann had been married for 28 years and they had four children all of whom were living on census day in 1911.
